Seoladh leabhrán nua de chuid Fóram na nÓg

Seolann an tAire O’Dowd tuairisc ar an Obair óige Gaeilge

Sheol an tAire Oideachais, John O’Dowd, leabhrán eolais ar an obair óige Gaeilge, tiomsaithe ag Fóram na nÓg, inné. Sonraíonn an leabhrán forbairt na hearnála le blianta beaga anuas, déanann sé cuir síos ar cad is obair óige Gaeilge ann agus déanfar roinnt moltaí i dtaobh forbairt na hearnála amach anseo.

Ag caint ag an seoladh sa Gailearaí fada i Stormont inné, arsa an tAire:

“Tacaíonn soláthar seirbhísí óige le féinléiriú agus cruthaíonn sé deiseanna do dhaoine óige le sult agus forbairt a dhéanamh ar scileanna agus feasacht Gaeilge s’acu, i suíomh neamhfhoirmeálta. Mar Aire Oideachais, tacaím le cearta páistí agus daoine óga oideachas a fháil trí mheán na Gaeilge, más rogha a dtuismitheoirí atá ann. Cuimsíonn seo oideachas ó na luathbhlianta, fríd an bhunscolaíocht agus an mheánscolaíochta agus le foghlaim neamhfhoirmeálta trí sheirbhísí óige. Tháinig an tuairisc seo chun tosaigh i ngeall ar dhíograis iad siúd atá ag plé le hoideachas agus an earnáil óige, a thuigeann an ról tábhachtach seo. Chonaic mise an tionchar gur féidir le hobair óige ag ardchaighdéan a dhéanamh le daoine aonaracha agus pobail maraon.

“Tá mé ag súil go leanfaidh an earnáil reachtúil agus dheonach leis an chomhoibriú chun soláthar óige ar ardchaighdéan, atá eifeachtúil agus uileghabhálach a thógáil agus a chothú a bheas ábalta miantaí ár ndaoine óga ar fad a chomhlánadh trí chur i bhfeidhm ‘Tosaíochtaí don Ógra’”

Arsa Ciarán Mac Giolla Bhéin, Cathaoirleach Fóram na nÓg:

“Tá lúcháir mhór orainn go raibh an taire ar fáil leis an leabhrán seo a sheoladh. Tá tiomantas s’aige de fhorbairt na hearnála óige Gaeilge i mbéal an phobail agus cuirimid fáilte roimh ráiteas s’aige inniu go leanfar leis an tacaíocht sin.

Sa leabhrán seo, tiomsaithe i gcomhairle le clubanna óige, daoine óga agus páirtithe leasmhara eile laistigh agus lasmuigh den earnáil, tá roinnt moltaí déanta againn i leith forbairt na hearnáil. Ina measc tá: go mbeidh aitheantas agus tacaíocht curtha ar fáil d’Fhóram na nÓg mar eagrais dheonach réigiúnda, go mbeidh oifigí óige Gaeilge fostaithe trasna an cúig bhórd agus go gcuirfear tuilleadh deiseanna oiliúna ar fáil do dhaoine óga le Gaeilge, trí mheán na Gaeilge. Táimid ag súil le bheith ag comhoibriú leis an roinn, an chomhairle óige agus páirtithe leasmhara eile leis na moltaí seo a bhogadh chun cinn.”

Minister O’Dowd launches report into Irish medium youth work

The Education minister, John O’Dowd, today launched an information booklet compiled by Fóram na nÓg on Irish medium youth work. The booklet charts the development of the sector over the past number of years, defines what Irish medium youth work and makes a number of recommendations as to the future development of the sector.

Speaking at the launch in Stormont’s long Gallery today, the minister said:

“Youth work provision supports self-expression and provides opportunities for young people to enjoy and develop their Irish language knowledge and skills in an informal setting. As Minister for Education, I respect the rights of children and young people to be taught in Irish should their parents wish it. This covers education from early years, through primary and secondary education to informal learning through the youth service. This report has come about through the drive and commitment of those involved in Irish-medium education and the youth sector who appreciate the important role. I have seen the difference that high quality youth work can make to individuals and communities.

“I look forward to both the statutory and voluntary sectors continuing to work together to build and sustain high quality, efficient and well integrated youth provision which meets the needs of all our young people through the implementation of Priorities for Youth.”

Ciarán Mac Giolla Bhéin, Chairperson of Fóram na nÓg said:

“We are delighted that the minister was available to launch this booklet today. The minister’s commitment to the the development of Irish medium youth services is a matter of public record and we welcome his comments today expressing his desire to continue that support.

In this booklet, compiled in consultation with clubs, young people and other stakeholders from both within and outside of the youth sector, we make a number of recommendations for the development of the sector, including the recognition and support for Fóram na nÓg as a regional voluntary organisation, Irish language youth officers employed across the 5 boards and more training opportunities to be made available to young irish speakers through their language of choice. We look forward to working in conjunction with the department, the youth council and other stakeholders to move these forward”.
